From the whimsical island of Yakushima, Japan, comes an extremely rare plant often misnamed the “Micro Mini Strawberry Begonia”. This tiny gem is officially called “Saxifraga stonifera fortunei var. Yakushima”.

Hardy to -20F outside it also thrives as a houseplant, windowsill addition, terrarium feature, or even in a Fairy Garden. Growing indoors is a breeze; just place it in a cool window with some morning sun. Keep the soil evenly moist—avoid letting it get too wet or too dry. If there’s a watering mistake, it’s better to err on the dry side.

Over time, this plant will send out mini plantlets that can be gently removed and transplanted. However, finding this rare beauty for sale is quite the challenge. A small plant, less than the size of a penny, can cost over $50.
