Samuel Hirt founded Hirt’s in 1915. He came to America to escape the oppression in Kiev, Ukraine. We know little about him. My father just said he was a “grumpy” old man. This is the only known picture of Sam and Anna, his wife. Samuel met Anna in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. I have no idea what he was doing there.
