Have you ever seen a Waxed Amaryllis bulb in a store for sale. You probably wondered what it is. Waxed Amaryllis bulbs are simply bulbs dipped in wax. They grow and bloom without and soil or watering. They are generally a top sized bulbs and there is a small amount of plant food in the wax to sustain the bulb. Caring for the Waxed Amaryllis is easy. Place it in a location with bright, indirect light with temperatures around 70 degrees. Water very sparingly. Add a very small amount of water to the base of the bulb it keep it moist. The bulb should never stand in water. As the bulb begins to bloom trim the withered flowers off to keep it blooming. After blooming carefully remove the wax and plant the bulb in a 6″ pot with holes for drainage. Use a high quality house plant potting mix. About one-third of the bulb should be above the top of the soil. Place the pot and bulb in a sunny window and watch the exotic green leaves grow. When the plant is done growing it will go dormant. Trim all of the dead leaves off and place the pot and bulb in a cool basement. After a 6-8 week dormancy bring the bulb out of the basement, water it and you will be amazed as you get new blooms and leaves. What could be easier?
